Purchasing a human hair wig or human hair extensions can be a daunting experience. I have prepared the following list of questions you should ask when considering your purchase: 1. What type of hair is it? Asian or European? 2. Is it a blend of synthetic and human hair? 3. Is it virgin or processed? 4. Is it remy or non remy? (Remy means the hair is going in the same direction your hair grows, with non-remy the direction is reversed.) 5. Is the wig all hand made? 6. Is the wig fully mono filament? Meaning, can it be parted anywhere and made to look as though the hair is growing from your scalp? 7. Is the wig partially machine sewn and partially hand made? 8. What type of base is the wig? For example is it a lace base, a stretch base, or a cotton base? 9. How do I care for the wig? 10. Is the hair versatile? Meaning, can it be curled, flat ironed, etc? 11. How is the wig attached? By tapes, by clips, by stretch lace, etc? AND MOST IMPORTANT - PLEASE TAKE A HEAD MEASUREMENT! These are some of the questions you should ask before making a human hair purchase. IF YOU HAVE ANY FURTHER QUESTIONS OR CONCERNS PLEASE DO NOT HESITATE TO CONTACT ME 416 694 5553

Hair fusions are strands of human hair that are held together with adhesive made from protein bonds, keratin bonds or plain glue. Not everyone can wear hair fusions. There are many people out there doing hair fusions that have not even taken a class on how to do it, which is very unfair to qualified hairdressers that have paid a lot of money to train in this technique. I personally know of one person who has watched me do hair fusions and today has a site on the internet advertising how to do hair fusions! When hair fusions are not done properly the client could go bald or lose a large quantity of their existing hair and then give this very very high end technique a bad reputation. I have worn hair fusions for over 18 years and really like wearing them, because I do not feel as though I have any hair extensions on at all. Remember if you are considering this technique, please go to someone who is qualified and purchase first grade human hair with protein bonds. Be very careful, since if you happen to use the wrong bonds you will lose hair. As a person who has done over 20,000 hair fusion strands I know what I am talking about. Before I forget, the proper removal of hair fusions is just as important as the way the fusions are attached.

Last weekend I attended the New York Hair Show and what can I report back to the world? Well, after paying 172.00 US dollars to attend I was not impressed with the show. In fact, I consider it a total waste of my time. In the hair industry people are still not very creative - all I saw was simple hair fusions and companies calling it by different names, as usual, to confuse the buyer. There were several different types of brand name wigs and human hair extensions, lots of loud music to get your attention, not to mention the beautiful girls and glamour, but remember what I always say - is it first grade or second grade human hair? Remy or non remy? After this question is answered, then focus on the processing, also do not forget to ask: is it single drawn or double drawn? I am just sick and tired of all the crap that goes on in the industry, many companies still just confusing the buyers. So remember to do your homework before making that purchase. All that glitters is not gold, some companies spend a lot of money on their advertising and posters and not on perfecting the actual product. Oh and before I forget, I did see lace weaves which I think is more crap since one would have to bond the hair again and hope that the glue does not leave your head bald. On a scale of 1 to 10 I would give lace weaves a 3 because most people were looking at the lace instead of the actual quality of the hair.

There are many possible causes of sudden, unexpected hair loss. Here are a few of the main ones:
Disease – Includes lupus, thyroid disease or other thyroid abnormalities, and alopecia.
Medication side effects – Blood pressure, acne, anti-depression and cholesterol medication can cause hair loss.
Telogen effluvium – Refers to any changes in your body due to physical or emotional stress that cause hair loss. Can include a death in the family, surgery and illness.
Genetics – You can inherit this from your mother's or father's side. Heredity also dictates the age, speed and extent of your hair loss.
Hormonal changes – Often prompted by childbirth, menopause or use of birth control pills.
If you notice hair thinning or hair loss, talk to your doctor. You may be able to combat the problem by changing your diet; eating foods high in protein such as beans or other legumes and eggs. And if your hair loss is caused by stress, do what you can to relax and ease the pace of your life. Vitamins such as Bioton, a B-complex vitamin, have been shown to help some people with hair loss or thinning hair. And, finally, take it easy with the styling. Excessive hair drying, dying, curling and straightening can damage hair, and tying your hair too tight can lead to a gradual hair loss known as traction alopecia.
And, it goes without saying, a wig or weft can disguise your hair loss while you treat the problem, or provide a permanent solution.

1. If you are buying a wig to wear during chemotherapy treatments, choose a wig that is a shade or two lighter than your natural hair colour. You may find that during chemotherapy treatment your skin tone pales, and darker hair can make you look washed out.
2. Try combing your wig sideways instead of up and down (like you comb regular hair). This will give it volume and keep it from looking flat.
3. When choosing a wig, make sure there is a little space between your bangs and your brows. This makes the hair look more natural. If the bangs overlap with your brows you can have the wig cut by a professional stylist.
4. Considering taking a tip from Raquel Welch: hang your wig upside down overnight. This will give it lots of volume for the next day. You can even hairspray it once you put it on to prolong the volume.

Sometimes I just have to stop and reflect on how much the wig industry has changed in the 26+ years I have been in it. Wigs have gone from being a secret you kept in your closet to a talked-about and celebrated fashion accessory.
And the industry has really grown: I recently learned that the wig and hair manufacturing industry is estimated to be worth $810 million in the U.S. alone, according to IBIS World's Wig & Hairpiece Manufacturing market research report.
As well as making more money, the industry is becoming recognized for its artistic contributions. Celebrity hairstylist Ted Gibson has been campaigning on social media to get the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences to award an Oscar for hair. I think this is long overdue; hairstylists and wig designers work just as hard as makeup and wardrobe designers to create a look for a film, and they deserve recognition.
What's next for the world of hair and wigs? I can't wait to find out.

I recently received this wonderful email from a happy customer, let's call her "S." It really makes me feel great to get feedback like this. Here's what she had to say: "I sought help through Hair & Wigs last January/February. I initially came in for a consultation and after just 1/2 hour I was so impressed with Camille, her expertise, care and compassion far surpassed my expectations. I am 43 years old and suffer from hormonal and medical alopecia - my hair may never grow back, but with the human hair integration top-piece, not one person can tell it's not my own hair..I wear it with pride and it looks like my real hair used to. I went to the consultation feeling hopeless and insecure. After I received my hairpiece - I left there very optimistic and my self-confidence was renewed and I look FANTASTIC. Thanks Hair & Wigs for making me look and feel beautiful again! I am coming back again for sure!" "S"

One of the most rewarding parts of my job is finding the perfect wig for someone who has lost their hair due to a medical condition, such as alopecia, or as a side-effect of chemotherapy. These people often come into the shop feeling very dejected, and it's amazing to see how a wig can brighten their whole outlook. The effect is instantaneous. I put the wig on them, and they smile.
Many people tell me that losing their hair was like losing a part of themselves. It can be very hard to look in the mirror and feel good about going outside and facing the world. I'm here to tell you that there is a solution. A beautiful, natural-looking wig can make a real difference in your life. I've seen it first hand. A person can go from being a cancer victim to a cancer fighter, all in the moment it takes to put on a wig.
Call 416-694-5553 to book an appointment for a fitting. I will see to it that you are treated with discretion and respect. Also, do not put off shopping for a wig. It is much easier to match your hair colour perfectly if you still have some existing hair. If you do not, don't worry, we have many years of experience finding the perfect wig for any complexion.

When it comes to men's human hair wigs and hair systems/wigs, the same rules apply for men's wigs and women's wigs. For example, there are mono wigs for women, and there are mono wigs and hair systems available for men. And just like women, men must have a consultation and have proper measurements done before purchasing a top hair piece hair system or a full cap wig. Too often men purchase hair systems over the Internet without taking any sort of measurement, then try to fit it on their head. If a hair system is not fitted properly it will look like a wig, and you may not even bother to wear it. Another thing you should consider before buying a hair system (top piece) is how you will attach it, i.e., which bond you will feel comfortable using. There are many different ways to attach a men's hair system. If you have some existing hair you can attach the hair system with clips. Or you could opt for the tapes. The type of tapes you use depends on the base you choose, and there are some combinations you should avoid: for example you do not want to put a lace tape on a poly base. The best thing to do is to have a proper consultation with an experienced hair replacement specialist, since there are many many different bases and many different ways to attach the hair system. You can make an appointment with one of our professional hair replacement specialists by calling 416-694-5553.

I've heard it from more than a few customers: wigs and wefts are addictive. Once you realize there is an easy way to get any hairstyle you want, the only limit is your imagination.
Here are a few opinions about wigs and wefts:
"Fashion changes so quickly these days. Waiting for your hair to grow again after cutting takes time. Hair pieces and wefts give instant length and fullness, and I don't need to commit to a new style or colour. I can change my look from day to day."
"I change wigs almost everyday and it's more like an accessory. Wigs are the best thing ever - you don't mess up your hair and you can change persona easily."
“I have become a slave to the wigs and the weaves. I love the quickness and the fullness. Plus I would never dye my hair because it falls out like a bolt of lightning.”
Come to Hair and Wigs and try out a new, beautiful, commitment-free style. Once you try it, you'll be hooked! Don't say I didn't warn you.

A woman's self-image is often tied up in her hairstyle, and having a bad hair day can make you not even want to leave the house. So what happens when, for no reason apparent to you, your hair starts to fall out?
Many people think hair loss is a male problem, but the fact is up to 40% of people facing hair loss are women (according to the American Hair Loss Association). If you notice your hair coming out in clumps, the first thing you need to do is see a doctor.
There can be many causes of hair loss, such as hormonal imbalance or an autoimmune disease such as Alopecia. Your doctor can perform blood tests to determine the cause of your hair loss and hopefully help you treat the problem. Or, the problem could be scalp irritation from wearing tight ponytails or cornrows or using extremely hot rollers. Dying and processing can also cause hair to fall out.
A wig is an excellent solution for all the hair loss scenarios mentioned here. Women tend to lose hair on the top and back of the head, areas easily covered by a wig.

What's the hottest new fashion accessory for 2012? Wigs!
Winter has always been a great season for us, but even I am taken aback by the growing interest in wigs. For women today wigs are like the little black dress: you have to own at least one.
What brought about this change? Partly, it is the advancements in wig design. A hand-tied, human hair wig is indistinguishable from your real hair, and wigs today are easier to wear than they used to be. Advancements in cap design have made them more lightweight and breathable.
Wigs suit today's fast-paced and impatient generation. Women today do not have time to spend hours styling and dying their hair, they just want their hair to look perfect right away. Also, they do not want to wait years to have long hair. With a wig, you can have long hair for the evening. Women today love the fact that they can change their look anytime they want and have sexy hair in minutes.
Wigs are a practical investment. Buying a wig has a one-time, predictable cost, as opposed to the open-ended costs of salon visits, home hair dye, products, upkeep, etc. If you buy a good quality wig and care for it properly it will last for years.
And finally, wigs are hot with celebrities. Tyra Banks, Katy Perry, Nicki Minaj, even Lady Gaga proudly wear wigs (some more outrageously than others!) Women have always taken cues from their favourite celebrities and once these beautiful ladies say it's OK to wear wigs, they will follow suit.
Here's to a beautiful and prosperous 2012!

Buying a human hair wig can be challenging for someone who knows nothing about wigs. I have seen some very awful human hair wigs over the years, wigs with the worst grade of human hair. The worst offenders are wigs made to look as though they have first grade hand made workmanship when indeed it is only partial hand tied work.
When buying a human hair wig, the most important things to keep in mind are size (the head must be properly measured) and quality. Don't be afraid to ask a lot of questions. "Is the hair remy or virgin remy?" "Where is the hair from, is it European human hair or Asian human hair?" Also, "is the wig hand tied or machine sewn, or is the wig skin implant?" You may not be familiar with the term "skin implant"; skin top wigs use the cheapest method of implanting hair in the wig cap using a skin machine. Because the hair is glued from the inside the hair will eventually fall out, leaving you with a balding look.
Wigs are priced according to the grade of hair and the workmanship of the wigs. Top quality wigs are virgin remy or remy human hair, and the cap is totally hand made. Hand tied wigs give a total natural effect as though the hair is growing from the scalp. When you lose your hair due to a medical condition such as alopecia, or as a side effect of cancer treatment, you may find you lose more than just your hair. You can lose confidence, privacy, your sense of femininity (if you are a woman), and the feeling that you are in control of your life.
Medical hair loss is a very personal experience, so everyone will deal with it differently. But I have heard from many clients that losing their hair is very traumatic because it is like a symbol of illness. They may feel they are dealing with their medical issue as best they can, then they go out into the street or go to work and they feel like everyone is looking at them, saying to themselves, "that poor sick person." Sometimes you want to keep your illness to yourself, or only tell those closest to you, not have every stranger look at you and jump to their own conclusions.
Also, hair is a powerful marker of gender identity, and women may feel less feminine when they lose their hair, and less confident in their appearance.
Finally, a medical diagnosis like alopecia or cancer can turn your life upside down, and there's nothing you can do about it. Many people have told me one of the worst parts of their cancer diagnosis was the loss of control.
My years of experience with wigs and hairpieces have shown me firsthand how much a beautiful and natural looking wig can change the way people look and feel. At Hair and Wigs we can help you find a wig that suits you so perfectly people will not know you have lost your hair. Then you can decide who you tell about your condition. In this way, you can take some power back.
Also you may find your wig makes you look more feminine and beautiful than ever. I have clients email me after their wig purchase to tell me how everyone keeps asking them where they got their hair done, and commenting on how great they look. How's that for a boost when you need it most!

I recently received this email and it really brightened my day. I feel like it's the perfect inspiring story for the new year. Jenna, you're my hero! "Hi Camille,
Because you are in the Wig business, I wanted to share with you my daughter Jenna whom is 9 years old story. I have a friend who has stage 4 cancer and is going thru a rough time, when Jenna saw that my friend was losing his hair due to Kemo therapy, she decided she wanted to do something to help. To make a long story short....on Dec 3rd Jenna had her hair shaved off (this was all Jenna’s idea) she also raised $ 1,000.00 dollars. I am a very proud Father and I was so happy that she would do this to help others in need. She also donated her hair to be made into a wig, for some child that could use it.
I thought you might like this as you are the Wig person when it comes to wigs in Canada.. CHECK OUT PICTURES BELOW !! Kindest Regards,

Chemotherapy is a powerful weapon in your fight against cancer, but is also has powerful side effects. Many people fear these side effects and worry about receiving the treatment. The good news is that we can help with one of the most dramatic of these side effects: hair loss. It is advisable to purchase a wig prior to your treatment, since you can more easily find a wig that matches your hair as much as possible. The cost of a wig is covered by many insurance companies. Losing your hair can be hard to accept. Experiencing hair loss as a result of cancer treatment can leave you feeling depressed and angry, however try to keep in mind that this is a temporary side effect. Please feel free to make an appointment to be fitted for a medical wig by calling 416-694-5553.

On the lighthearted side of things, I thought I'd share this fun app I found. It's called Figaro Wig HD. In this game you are a cute little pink wig trying to escape scissors and razors and other barber shop traps, collecting all the drops of hair dye before you can advance to the next screen. A nice break from a busy day selling the city's finest wigs and hair pieces! Click here to read a description and review of the game.

I receive hundreds of phone calls every month from customers all over the world and I keep noticing how confused customers are regarding wigs and hair pieces. I wish hair companies would just stop confusing the general public! For example, customers often call and ask about HD human hair. I think they mean high definition human hair. What is HD human hair? This is just another way to confuse the customer - there is no such hair. Also what is cyber human hair? Why don't the hair companies just say "first grade human hair" or "second grade human hair" or "processed hair" or "virgin hair," why give all theses name to confuse the customer? Don't fall into this trap: when asking about wigs and hair pieces just use the terms "remy hair" or "non remy hair," "virgin hair" or "processed human hair." In my previous blogs I explain the difference.

Like many of you I was shocked to learn that a chemical present in most hair dyes has recently caused the death of a 17 year old girl and plunged a 38 year old woman into a coma which she has only an 8% chance of surviving. Please take a moment to click on this link and read the story, so you can do what you can to protect yourself. http://www.healthzone.ca/health/newsfeatures/research/article/1090405--hair-dye-ingredient-linked-to-coma-death
We are told that home hair dyes are safe, and then this happens. These cases occurred in the UK but the chemical in question, paraphenylenediamine, or PPD, is present in 2/3 of hair dyes including those sold in Canada. More must be done to ensure that these commonly used products are safe for unsuspecting consumers. Please be sure you do a patch test each time you colour, as sensitivity can build up through repeated exposure. Also keep in mind that wigs are non-invasive, chemical-free and totally safe. They may not take the place of your coloured hair but by reducing the amount of times you colour you can prevent the buildup of sensitivity to PPD.

Men's wigs can be divided into two categories; full cap wigs, and top pieces that integrate with the person's existing hair (also known as a toupee). Just as with female hair replacements one should focus on the base and the workmanship: for example is it hand tied, machine sewn or partially hand made? Hand tied workmanship is the top of the line, as it gives the effect of the hair growing from the person's scalp. Hand tied wigs are created by knotting a single strand at a time, which is top of the line workmanship in the wig making world. The system has to be fully hand made. Next are partially hand made systems which are comprised of hand tied knotting and machine sewn wefts. Then finally there are the machine made systems which are machine sewn wefts only. These are the cheapest systems on the market. So men - you have some choices to make. A full cap wig or a top piece (aka toupee)? A fully hand tied system, or partial or machine sewn? Please feel free to book an appointment at Hair and Wigs by calling 416-694-5553.

Here at Hair and Wigs our customers embrace wigs and wefts as an effortless way to get the hair look they want. However, many of them have spoken to me about a "backlash" regarding wigs. There seems to be an attitude among some people that wearing a wig means you hate your own natural hair, and want to hide it away. I see it a different way: wearing a wig doesn't mean you hate your hair, it means you love it and want to protect it. Processing, straightening, dying and styling your natural hair can damage it permanently. A wig protects your hair and leaves it beautiful and natural underneath your perfect hairdo. So the next time you're wearing a wig and someone stops you on the street and says "I love your hair" tell them, "Thanks, so do I!"

Consider your facial shape and head size when choosing a wig: Head sizes: PPP (Ultra Petite) = 20" 1/2 PP (Petite Petite) = 20" 3/4 P (Petite) = 21" PA (Petite Average) 21" 1/4 A (Average) = 21" 1/2 A/L (Average large) = 22" 1/4 L (Large) = 23" In order to choose the most flattering style of wig consideration should be given to your facial shape. Traditionally there are a total of seven facial shapes: Oval, Round, Square, Oblong, Heart, Pear, and Diamond.
Find the wig that's best for you and the compliments will roll in!

Bangs are a great way to frame your face and make you look younger. Thick, bluntly cut bangs are also very stylish. The trouble is, bangs require a lot of upkeep. If you don't trim them regularly they get too long and stray into your eyes. They are the first part of your hair to become oily and sweaty. And they are a commitment - many of us know firsthand how long it takes to grow out your bangs, and how terrible certain stages of the process look.
Now there's an easy way to get this trendy look, made popular by an endless array of stars like Kelly Rowland. Our 100% Human Hair Clip-In Bangs take the work and commitment out of bangs. They are also very popular with women who have fine or thin bangs. They're only $65, probably less than your hairdresser would charge, and here's the best part - when bangs go out of style, you can just take them off.

A funny or frightening wig is a key part of a many Halloween costumes, but at Hair and Wigs we are in the business of high quality hairpieces. Here are a few tricks to keep your everyday wig looking a treat.
1. The Right Size: A wig that is too large looks "wiggy", and is a dead giveaway. A wig that is too small will cause discomfort and headaches, and you may find yourself inadvertently touching and shifting it around during the day (also a giveaway, as real hair does not shift and move!). That's why its important to measure your head before buying a wig. I talk about how to measure your head in a previous blog.
2. The Right Cut: Sometimes a wig will have much more hair than your natural hair. If you have thinning hair this may be what you're looking for, but it can go too far. If the wig has the fullness of a teenagers hair, and you are more advanced in years than that, it may look fake. Consider having the wig thinned at a salon, and cut to suit your face. Think back to the best haircut and style you ever had, and try to make the wig match that - with, perhaps, a more modern twist.
3. The Right Colour: A wig is a great opportunity to effortlessly try a new colour, but if it does not complement you, consider a hue closer to your natural hair colour. Nature generally does a good job of matching our complexion and hair. You can always be a bleach blonde for Halloween - Marilyn Monroe costumes never go out of style!
4. The Right Care: Make sure to wash your wig with the proper shampoo, and to fully air dry on a wig stand. I talk about caring for your wig in a previous blog.
5. The Right Wig: Synthetic, Remy Human Hair, Lace Front, Skin Base...there are so many options. Call us at 416 694 5553 or drop by the store and we can discuss which one is right for you.
Happy Halloween!

I have decided to write again about the importance of purchasing a wig with a comfortable base; a base that you the customer will feel comfortable wearing. Too often customers purchase a wig that looks great on the outside but, once worn, just does not feel comfortable. It is important to make sure you have a base that gives you comfort since you will be wearing this unit most of the day. For example: skin base wigs are suitable for clients that have total hair loss, and if someone with a small amount of hair loss purchases this base it is likely to cause discomfort. There are many many different kinds of wigs bases. Here is a list of a few: fine mono base, lace base, skin base, integration base, etc. Please do your research or book a consultation with one of our hair consultants by calling this number: 416 694 5553

In today's harsh economic climate people are tightening their belts
and looking closely at every dollar they spend. So today I'm asking
the question - can you afford to buy a wig?
Maybe you need a wig to deal with hair loss from a medical condition
such as Cancer or Alopecia. In that case I would strongly recommend a
wig. Turbans and scarves can cover your head, but it will still be
obvious that you have no hair. Many people suffering from
medical-related hair loss find that they prefer to keep their
condition out of the public eye. Knowing that people are looking at
you and wondering about your health makes many people uncomfortable. A
realistic wig allows you to keep your condition between you and those
closest to you. Furthermore, it has been proven many times over that
looking good has a real impact on how good you feel.
So can you afford to buy a wig? Yes. Many insurance companies cover the cost of a "hair prothesis", so be sure to ask your insurance company about it. Or you can contact social services, they will pay for your wig if you cannot afford one and have a medical condition that is causing you to lose your hair. And even if these options do not pan out, a Revlon Medical Wig such as the Wish costs only $390. It has special features such as soft, translucent polyurethane strips to prevent slippage. But here's something you may not know: we can
customize one of our non-medical wigs for only $20. This means that
when you come into our store our entire selection is available to you,
not just the Medical Wigs. And if your problem is thinning hair, you
can choose a Hair Integration/Volumization option instead of a full
wig. Your own hair is integrated into a lightweight yet secure base.
It adds volume and length where you need it, and costs less than a
full wig.
But what if you want a wig for a non-medical reason? Maybe you're
wondering if a wig is a frivolous purchase. Consider this - visits to
the salon are expensive and time-consuming, and while you may walk out
of the salon looking great, your look degrades over time and you have
to book another expensive appointment. A wig looks great every time
you put it on, and it is a one-time purchase.
Its easy to spot a woman who needs to get herself to the hair salon.
You may think to yourself, is she too busy to go? Or can she no longer
afford it? Wearing a stylish and beautiful wig projects an impression
of someone who has it all together. This can give you the confidence
you need to succeed in a more competitive world.
Can you afford to buy a wig? Maybe the real question is, can you afford NOT to?

This blog is for all the men out there facing hair loss. I feel sometimes the focus in the hair and wig world can be on women, but men are a very important and valued part of our customer base so I thought it was high time to send a message to them. My male customers have told me how hard it can be for a man to lose his hair. Your hair is a sign of youth and vitality, and losing your hair can make you look and feel old before your time. In a society that values youth and vigor, premature baldness can be a blow to a man's ego and even set him back socially or at work.
So what are the options? You can shave your head bald, but this is not a look that works for everyone. Sometimes once you get all the hair off you find that your head is irregularly shaped, or perhaps you just aren't into the bald look. Hair transplants and hair grafts are expensive and time-consuming, and drugs like Rogaine can have side effects and only work as long as you take them. A wig is a non-invasive, no-risk option. A one-time purchase of a natural looking, stylish wig such as the Kenneth is under $300. That price will only get you approx 60 hair grafts - which may sound like a lot, but its really the equivalent of a small circle of hair right at the crown: a full head of hair like the Kenneth would require over 5,000 grafts. And as for Rogaine, at $45 a bottle, $300 will only get you a 6 month supply. Remember, Rogaine only works as long as you use it. A well maintained wig can last up to five years.
With the Kenneth offered at such a low price, you could buy it just to try it out - it will cost you a fraction of the other options, and there's no physical risk or long hours spent in clinics. And here's yet another option for men who want to ensure a natural look no one will be able to detect: make an appointment with us to try out a 100% real human hair wig or Hair System. A Hair System can be integrated into your existing hair to create the fullness you've been missing. With all the women out there proudly wearing wigs to look their best, why not try out the easiest, cheapest, and most natural-looking option out there for men facing hair loss.

Today I have decided to write about caring for your human hair wig. Some wig shops charge up to $150.00 to wash and style your wig. Or you can follow the steps below and care for it yourself. Care Instructions for Human Hair Wigs Cleansing the Hair: 1. Before shampooing, gently remove all tangles. If hair is excessively tangled use a spray-on conditioner. 2. Always use a mild shampoo or one specially formulated for chemically treated hair. 3. Run the hair under warm water. Place a small amount of shampoo on your fingers and gently work the shampoo into the hair, stroking downwards from the weft base to the ends. Do not twist, scrub or rub the hair. Use shampoo sparingly. 4. Rinse thoroughly under warm running water until the water runs clear. Be sure to rinse until all shampoo is removed as improper rinsing could result in damage. Conditioning the Hair: 1. Place a small amount of conditioner in your hand. Gently work into the hair and let sit for three to five minutes. 2. Rinse thoroughly in warm water. 3. Gently towel blot to remove excess water. 4. While wet, gently comb hair to remove tangles. Using a large toothed comb, move in a downward motion away from the wefts and to the ends. Do not use a bristle brush on wet hair as it may pull out or break the hair. 5. Hang to air dry, set in rollers or use a blow dryer on a low setting as desired.
Styling the Hair: 1. Steam rollers or wet setting are the safest way to curl human hair. 2. Blow dryers, curling irons and other thermal tools may be used on low setting. Remember the hair may scorch if the setting is too high. Please remember any cutting or any chemical processes such as perming or colouring of human hair wigs or pieces should be done by a professional stylist.

Once again I am going to talk about how important it is to have your exact head measurements before purchasing any wig, especially medical clients. Sometimes when a person purchases a wig in advance of undergoing chemotherapy they will have all of their hair at the time of purchase. Then after they lose their hair due to chemo or radiation treatment the wig will become very loose and if not bonded will eventually fall off the head. So i would take this fact into consideration and adjust the wig to fit properly. Now for some clients that still have some hair remaining this fact should also be taken into consideration, for example customers that have treatment for thyroid problems rather than cancer. In this case some of the hair may fall out rather than all of the hair, so again the adjustments have to be done properly. In conclusion, head measurement is very very important. When purchasing a wig, especially medical wigs, please make sure your measurements are done properly in order for the wig to fit properly. Please refer to www.hairandwigs.com/faq for more information.

I have decided to write again about human hair wigs and I cannot stress this enough: wigs are priced according to the workmanship and quality of human hair. In my previous blog I explained the types of human hair grades and said threre are only two kinds of human hair grades. I really do not care where the hair comes from, whether from Europe or Asia, it can only be two grades: remy or non-remy human hair. Remy hair is first grade; the same way it is removed from the person's head is the same way it is placed on the wig. It falls in the very same direction your own hair grows making it impossible for the hair to tangle, whereas with non-remy human hair the roots and tips of the hair are all mixed up and will tangle if it is not processed to remove all the existing hair cuticles. The second most important fact to consider is what kind of human hair wig are you going to purchase, is it a machine sewn wig or a 100 percent top-of-the-line hand tied wig? A customer showed me a European wig she had purchased for 4000 over priced dollars and I was surprised when all she had paid for was a mono top and machine sewn back wig. For a shoulder length European wig this customer was ripped off becaused for this price she should have gotten a 100 percent hand tied wig with the effect of the strands growing out of her scalp, not the machine sewn wiggy look for 4000 dollars. I've said it before, I'll say it again - Buyer Beware!

The other day I heard a woman on the street complement her friend, saying "I love what you're wearing." I looked over to see what dress or top was so impressive (Nosy? Maybe!) and was surprised to see the other woman touch her hair, smile and say "thank you." It was a wig this friend was referring to, and a very good one at that - even after 20 years in the business I might not have caught it right away.
It's a great example of what I've been talking about in this blog. As wigs are becoming more realistic and affordable they are also becoming more acceptable. Like makeup or a padded bra, they are another way to enhance your natural beauty.
Wigs are a great choice for women who want to look beautiful everyday. You don't have to sit in a salon chair for hours getting a perm or plait or weave, you can just put on a wig and get on with your life.
Today I decided to feature one of my favourite wigs, the Lana from Revlon's Simply Beautiful line. I feel like it has a Beyonce look. Click on the links and decide for yourself!

You went out and bought a beautiful wig (hopefully from us!). It looks great, feels great, you love it. Now how do you protect your investment and make your wig last? Caring for your wig properly is essential to keep it looking good. First of all you should wash your wig once a week. The hair strands need to be clean and not weighed down for a wig to resemble natural healthy hair. You should wash your wig in the evening and allow it to air dry overnight on a wig stand that will help it keep its shape and avoid tangling. And I can't stress this enough - you must use professional wig care products (shampoo, conditioner and hair sprays) specifically designed for the type of wig you have (synthetic, human hair or a blend). Human hair wigs will also require daily styling as you would with your own natural hair.
If you have a synthetic wig you must avoid exposing your wig to extreme heat. The following heat sources have the potential to ruin your wig.
•steam from a hot dishwasher •stovetop •the oven •the barbeque •the fireplace

To an outsider, it may seem like hair loss is the last thing on your mind when you are faced with a diagnosis of cancer. But the truth is, hair loss is truly felt as a loss by many cancer sufferers. Losing your hair is one of the first changes your body goes through once chemotherapy begins, the first outward sign of your illness. It can be messy, painful, and traumatic, and worst of all it can debilitate you right at the beginning of your cancer battle.
We all hear about the importance of thinking positive but I can tell you from experience those are not just empty words. There are many scientific studies showing evidence that positive thinking can reduce the length and severity of an illness. For example, "lipstick therapy", which is based on the concept that when you're not feeling well, knowing you are looking good can boost your mood. How you are feeling can help speed up the recovery process. I have seen for myself what a beautiful wig does for someone who has lost their hair during chemotherapy - they come in depressed and sometimes crying, but when I put the wig on they brighten up right away, and by the time they leave they are smiling and laughing. They look like their old selves again and they have hope. And we should never underestimate how powerful hope can be.

Not all of us are like Niki Minaj or Lady Gaga when it comes to our wigs. Those ladies are out and proud with their costume do's, proclaiming their love of wigs to all the world. But the average man or woman who wears a wig to conceal hair loss due to alopeica or cancer treatments, or as a quick and affordable way to keep their hair looking perfect ever day, some discretion may be in order. Here are some tips to keep anyone from knowing your beautifully styled hair is actually a wig.
Choose the right hair thickness for your age: Wearing a wig with the density of a teenager’s hair when you’re 40 will most likely result in people noticing that it’s not your real hair. Choose a wig that resembles your current hair thickness or, if you are losing hair, the thickness of a typical person your age
Choose the right colour: A wig is a great opportunity to test drive a new colour without commitments, and changing things up can be lots of fun. However remember nature does a good job of matching our skin and hair colour, and if you want to look natural you should choose a colour that complements you, just as you would if you were dying your hair that colour.
Buy a Human Hair Wig: Synthetic wigs are fun for parties, and a high quality synthetic wig does a passable job, but if you really want a natural look there is no substitute for a monofilament cap Human Hair wig. "Monofilament" means that the strands are individually hand-tied to the cap, creating an undetectable hairline. Monofilament cap wigs can be parted any way without revealing the cap, and can even be pulled into updo's and ponytails and still look real. Try doing that with a synthetic wig! Furthermore, Human Hair wigs are just that- real human hair. The movement and shine of the hair is totally natural and no one will know your beautiful head of hair is not the one you were born with. If a Human Hair wig is out of your price range try a Human Hair/Synthetic blend such as the Sarah .
Care for Your Wig: A tangled, dried out, matted wig is a dead giveaway. Wigs can easily become damaged if they’re not properly washed, dried, combed and preserved. Always use a special shampoo to clean your wig – never use regular hair products! Properly drying your wig is also important and you should avoid leaving it to dry in direct sunlight. Wigs should be air dried, preferably while on a wig stand that will preserve the shape of the wig and prevent tangling. When you are travelling make sure you keep your wig in a special box – this will also preserve its shape and prevent tangling.

Here we go again regarding medical wigs. Let's be honest - medical clients, you are a premimum customer to every wig shop and if someone tells you different they are lying.
A customer came to see me last Saturday and had a list of wig shops suggested to her by Lakeridge Health Centre. I noticed my company, Hair and Wigs Inc, was not on the list. I then proceeded to call this hospital to have my company added to the list and was met with alot of hostility by the staff. I was then told someone would call me back to add my company name. To date no one has ever called me back. I also called the Henderson General Hospital to have my company name added to the list and was also met with hostility. In my opinion the staff of these hospital are maybe working with the wig shops to have the first jump on the customers, and of course the customer is ill so these wig shops are referred to the customer first, and if Hair and Wigs, a wig shop that sell wigs from $100 to $4,500, gets in the way........you the customer read between the lines. What does it take to get on these lists? I am still trying to find out. Do we have to pay a kick back? Of course not.....4 years ago I was told by one hospital staff member that I have to pay $100 for every referral, because that is what a certain wig shop pays. I refused to pay and so to this date we were never placed on this list by this certain hospital. So you the customer decide, please shop around. Just because a company is not on a hospitals referral list it does not mean they cannot meet your needs for a high quality and affordable medical wig.

Summer is a very busy time for us and its not hard to see why. As the temperatures rise and women get busy with their summer plans, they want to keep things simple and easy where their hair is concerned. When it gets hot and sticky out, most women don't want to use flat irons, curling irons and blowdryers. Summer is also a time to shake off the winter blahs and change up your look with something new and fresh.
Here are some very popular summer items we feature at our stores:
Extension Highlights : Choose extensions that are one or two shades lighter than your natural colour for face framing highlights. An easy way to get a sun kissed look.
Monofilament caps: Unlike cheaper cloth caps, lacy monofilament caps breathe and stay cool all day and night.
Go Blonde : Summer is a great time to test drive a new colour. And with a natural looking, high quality wig you don't have to ruin your hair doing it! Go Straight : Keep your look sleek and polished while the other ladies frizz out!

In today's tough economy people have to become more creative about the way they spend their time and money. Today's world is more competitive, with a larger number of people vying for the same jobs or battling to keep the job they have. A put-together look creates a powerful first impression of a person who is poised and in control. A wig will give you that fresh-from-the-salon look without costly and time-consuming salon visits or home styling. And if you are going gray, or losing your hair, a wig will keep you looking young and vital. Let a wig give you the edge it takes to succeed in a busy city like Toronto, or anywhere in the world!

Have you ever wondered how some people get their hair so perfect day to day? The body, the colour, the style. Well, it may just be a wig.
More and more women are wearing wigs these days because it saves them so much time getting ready in the morning. Just give it a quick shake and a fluff and its ready to go. A wig will give you that fresh from the salon look every day, without spending all that time and money on upkeep.
Wearing a wig is easy, convenient and fun. It's also a great way to try on a new look - a new cut, even a new colour, without actually changing your hair. You can test drive a new look without commitments.
I've been selling wigs here in Toronto for over 20 years, and I can tell you that they've come a long way in terms of realism and comfort. And attitudes about wigs have changed a great deal - television personalities like The Real Housewives of Atlanta's Kim Zolciak are openly and proudly talking about how great their wigs make them look and feel.

Are you a blonde trapped in a brunette's body? Are you too young at heart for gray hairs? Is your short hair taking forever to grow? Have years of straightening your curly hair left it less than silky smooth? Stars like Katy Perry and Nicki Minaj are making wigs cool again, changing their looks from day to day without stressing their hair in the process. A wig is a quick and beautiful way to get the look you want without all the costly and time-consuming maintenance. Best of all your natural hair is spared all the dying, styling and processing and stays healthy.

|
It is extremely important that before you purchase any wig you should have the proper measurment of your head taken to be quite sure you are purchasing the correct size of wig. Wigs are available in many sizes and sometimes customers purchase the wrong size of wig and this can cause headaches if the wig is too small or cause the style to look wiggy if the wig is too large. Most people wearing wigs are not aware of the different wig sizes or do not care to know, all they are interested in is that the person selling the wig do a proper fitting. I would like to mention the different wig sizes. PPP means (Ultra Petite) = 20 1/2" PP means (Petite Petite) = 20 3/4" P means (Petite) = 21" PA means (Petite Average) = 21 1/4" A means (Average) = 21 1/2" A/L means (Average Large) = 22 1/4" L means (large large) = 23"
If your measurements do not appear within these measurements then you will have to have a specially made wig, what we call a "custom made unit." You may also choose the type of hair and workmanship for your wig.

A woman came to me today with a wig that was purchased from a wig store here in Toronto (no names!) I was shocked to find out the lady paid over $2000 for a human hair wig that, first of all, was only partly mono and the entire wig was machine sewn. This made me very upset since our industry needs to be regulated. Frankly speaking the woman was ripped off. The only thing about the wig that was good was the hair (the hair was indeed a remy hair let me be fair to the shop) but the construction was awful. For this price please, customers, make sure you get what you pay for. Please do your homework before purchasing a wig, never never let any wig shops pressure you into believing you must order your wig ASAP. Do your research! Cancer patients and medical clients, do not let any wig shop tell you to make a spur of the moment decision, take your time to make this important purchase. Too often women rush into making decisions because it is their hair, but please take your time and shop around and you will not be ripped off like this woman was. Buyer beware. If you are losing your hair quickly, wear a turban or a scaf until you can make the right decision regarding your medical wig.
|
|
|
Now that we've talked about the importance of getting a wig before you begin treatments, I want to go into more detail about how a cancer patient can minimize stress around hair loss. The first step is to get a well fitted and high quality wig. Then, in my opinion, the patient should remove their hair, either shaving it bald or cutting it short, before their first treatment. Having your hair fall out can be very traumatizing and cause people to panic. If your hair is cut very short, or already shaved, you will spare yourself this ordeal. Avoiding the stress of your hair falling out, and having a wig that looks and feels just like your natural hair, will go a long way towards keeping you feeling positive and strong.
|
|
Many cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy or radiation treatments lose their hair fairly quickly. It's quite likely that 14 days after your first treatment, your hair will have fallen out.
That's why it's important to get fitted for a wig BEFORE you begin your treatment. We can find a wig that exactly matches your hair colour, and you can take it in to a hairdresser to have it styled, while your hair is still looking its best.
Also chemotherapy is quite physically demanding for most people, and once you are receiving treatments going out and shopping for a wig may be the last thing you feel like doing.
Getting a wig before you begin your first treatment is a positive and proactive step. Losing your hair can be very traumatic, but having a beautiful wig onhand may help ease the shock of the process. I believe very much in the power of positive thinking, and being confident about how you look can go a long way in helping you stay strong during a time when you will need all your strength.
|
|
|
Years of styling can leave hair dry, brittle and damaged. You can spend a small fortune on more products that just mask the problem, or you can let your hair heal under a fashionable and natural-looking wig. With a wig you never have a bad hair day and you give your real hair a much needed break from styling.
|
|
Patients undergoing chemotherapy or radiation treatments for cancer go through many physical changes, including hair loss. Some cancer medications designed to treat aggressive cancers cause total hair loss, other medications may cause hair to thin. Hair usually starts growing back a few weeks after the last treatment, however while treatment is ongoing many patients choose to wear a wig. Losing your hair can be very traumatic, and a wig can help raise confidence and keep your spirits up during a difficult time.
People who are considering chemotherapy should ask their doctor about a prescription for what is called a "hair prosthesis". Many insurance companies will cover the cost of a wig needed for medical purposes.
|
|
Alopecia means loss of hair from the head or body. Alopecia can occur as a result of age, genetic factors, hormone levels, or even certain hairstyling routines such as tight ponytails or braids or excessive use of hair relaxer solutions or hot hair irons. Sometimes Alopecia is an indicator of an underlying medical condition, such as iron deficiency.
There are medications available to treat Alopecia, as well as surgical options such as follicle transplants. A high quality, natural looking wig can be used in conjunction with these treatments, or as an alternative to them. Patients suffering from Alopecia often find that a wig is a simple and effective way to deal with hair loss.
|
|
For people who have lost their hair, either temporarily due to chemotherapy, or permanently due to a medical condition, wigs are one of the most popular options. Selecting a wig as your hair replacement option requires no surgery and is a small monetary investment compared to other options.
|
|
|
Wigs come in both human hair and synthetic hair varieties, in many natural colors, and a great variety of textures. The options can be overwhelming at first, but a trained wig specialist can help you find a wig that is right for you.
|
|
When caring for a synthetic wig it is important to use products specifically made for synthetic hair. Synthetic wigs come pre-styled and do not allow for much customization. On the other hand, human hair wigs can be colored, cut and curled and you can use regular human hair styling products. Using a wig gives your existing hair a break from treatments and styling and can allow undergrowth to flourish.
|
|
|
A client ask a question the question was "Does human hair wigs generate more heat than synthetic wigs? In my opinion it really does not matter most wigs shops would like you to think that synthetic wigs generate more heat when in reality it is the type of construction of the wigs that determines if the wigs will generate more heat on the scalp. For example a total machine made wig will not generate more heat regardless if the wig is synthetic hair or human hair, machine made wigs seems to have more air vents however it has a lot of disadvantage if the client is going through medical treatment and have total hair loss. The medical client should choose a total mono wig or a partial mono wigs cap. These caps are better for medical clients because it looks as though the hair is growing from the scalp however it has a tendency to generate some degree of heat on some customers scalp. If the wigs is going to be made custom fitted maybe one could ask for a cotton base this would help a great deal or having a partial mono wigs helps because the back is machine sewn. Total mono wigs are the top of the line when it comes to workmanship of a wig but there is some degree of heat that some customers will experience.
|
|
|
Medical wigs are wigs that have special features such as a secure fit, added comfort and a natural appearance. In today's wigs making world, the entire wig could be totally hand-crafted or partial hand-crafted. Partial hand-crafted wigs can give the appearance as though the hair is growing from the scalp. A new technology called non-slip grips is a special silicone non-slip material to prevent the wig from shifting on the head. For sensitive scalp these wigs have a cushioned soft material and is suitable for Alopecia, Chemotherapy or other medical treatments clients. For further information please call 416 624 6560 or 416 694 5553 for a consultation.

Today I have decided to spend some time explaining human hair second grade also referred to as non-remy human hair. Non-remy hair is produced when the first grade is hackled and the hair left in the hackled with the roots and tips of the hair all mixed up is call non-remy hair also known as second grade human hair. Because the roots and tips of the hair is mixed the hair cuticles are not going in the same direction and if the hair cuticles are not in the same direction the hair will tangle.
To prevent this massive tangle the hair companies acid wash the hair with acids. Ever wonder why sometimes when you wash your human hair wigs or weaves it has a smell? Well what you are smelling is the chemicals used to totally removed the cuticles , if these hair cuticles from the non-remy hair are not removed the hair will tangle. This type of human hair is called regular human hair and is sometimes priced for $20.00 a pack for 4ozs. By using this hair some people will have itchy scalp and sometimes headaches. I would suggest you wash second grade human hair before attaching to you existing hair.
I would also like to share an experience with you I had when I was training in Korea. I was learning how to process second grade human hair in a hair factory and because I did not know how to speak Korean everything was done by sign language. When the chemicals were mixed together with the acids a cloud of fumes escaped and I was trapped inside the factory and almost lost my eyesight, when I returned to Toronto, for about 6 months I had problems with the nerves in one of my eyes this is just to explain to you the harsh chemicals that are used to process second grade human hair. Some hair companies use these same chemicals to process first grade human hair, I advise my clients to purchase virgin hair or hair that was not given harsh acid wash.

A child wearing a wig is totally different from an adult wearing a wig. Sometimes a child ends up wearing a wig that is sized for an adult. When purchasing a wig for a child please remember that a child has to play, and do all the things that a child does. In my opinion children should use disposable wigs in other words "throw away units" there is a full cap called the NX-GEN SKIN EFFECTS unit, this unit is made from 100% human hair length of the hair is around 14 to 16 inches. Base is micro-thin skin with special V-loop throughout. Application type is full head bonding only and this unit can be cut down to size, there is no need for a custom made work. This unit is also free style and last for 3 months, it is recommended that these units be purchased on a programme sale . My next suggestion for a child would be the stretch cap lace wigs with self grips.

|
Regarding men's hair systems, before shopping for a hair system ( toupee ) one should first do their homework properly. Please look at the quality of hair and also the type of base. Also, check to see if the type of construction of the hairpiece is made by hand, or machine? Please remember in the hair industry the finest workman-ship is done by hand not a machine (made to look as though it is done by hand). Over the years I have probably cut and style thousands of hair systems and before selling a hair system I first meet with the client and explain again the different types of hair systems since we are always updating our hair systems with the latest style and designs.

Writing this blog will make a lot of people upset however I really do not care since I am know for being outspoken in the hair industry. European wigs are over priced and a complete waste of money. For people who have thousand of dollars to throw away then they can go right ahead and purchase a European wig.

A client came to see me last week and bought a wig she had purchased from a reputable wig shop in Toronto. The client told me the wig was a blended wig and inside the wig said blended fibre. Blended wigs I explain to her has several meanings. The client thought she had purchased human hair blended with synthetic hair, however after I tested the wig there were no human hair mixed with the synthetic fibre. What the client actually purchased was two colours blended together this is called blended colours. I would suggest to customers purchasing blended wigs please ask questions is the wig a blended human hair mixed with synthetic hair? Or a wig that is totally synthetic however it is blended with two different colours synthetic fibre?

When shopping for medical wigs and hair replacements units it would be wise to first understand the description of the cap. For example there are lace caps, gel caps, mono-top caps, fully mono-caps, partial lace caps, and skin caps, these are just a few caps. Here at Hair & Wigs Inc we offer capabilities and flexibilities with some of our Hair Systems. Our state of the art hair systems are available for men and women. In today's market there is really no need to order custom made expensive hair system.

Picture this a person for the very first time visiting a beauty supply store and trying to decide which bag of hair to purchase?
This can be very difficult if the person selling the hair has no knowledge about the hair . What i am saying is too often people selling human hair has no clue about the product. Customers always call me about different brands of human hair and some would say this brand of hair is better than the other brand of hair. I often share an experience i had when i was in Indonesia, I took a train for 3 hours into the country side to visit one of the largest hair factory in the world. To my surprise this company was packaging human hair for many different hair companies in North America , in one corner there was this popular brand and in the other corner was another popular brand of hair being package for export to the North, yet each company was saying there hair was better than the other. So with human hair the most important question is, is it first grade or second grade?. First grade is remy or remy virgin or second grade is non- remy. I really do not care about the different brands of hair however after i know if it is first grade or second grade then i proceed to find out how it was process. Buyer beware.

I receive many calls every day regarding human hair quality. Customers are always confused about the different types of human hair and many times they have purchase 2nd grade human hair at 1st grade prices. Let me set the record straight. Human hair has only two grades 1st grade hair and 2nd grade hair. 1st grade human hair is called remy or virgin remy hair. 2 nd grade human hair is called non-remy human hair, or regular hair. I always suggest to the customers to spend a little more and purchase a good quality hair from reputable stores that will not sell you 2nd grade human hair at 1st grade prices.
|
|
|
As a person who is experience in the processing of human hair I would like to share with you a little info into the world of hair processing. After the hair is removed from the person head the hair kept in the same direction is consider first grade, when this hair is hackled to separate the short strands of hair from the longer strands once the hair continues to be kept in the very same direction when it was removed this continues to be first grade human hair. Once the roots and tips of the hair is mixed this becomes second grade human hair, or another word non remy. Non remy human hair is consider second grade.

Hairpieces get dirty as a part of normal use. Hair-styling products build up on a hairpiece, and dirt and dust accumulate on it as well. A dirty hairpiece looks dull and is hard to style. It will tangle easily, and look flat and even dirty. Yet hairpieces have to be cleaned carefully to avoid damaging them.

There are many myths and questions about hair fusions extensions systems.
I have tried to list a few based on the hundreds of phone calls I receive each month.
What is hair fusions? Hair fusions is taking a group of your natural hair strands and a group of the artificial hair strands and then fusing it together with an adhesive , resulting in making the hair fuller and longer.

I said it all along that lace front and fully made lace wigs were not for everyone. I was right since now lace wigs are going out of style and women have began to realize that some of these wigs cause a lot of problems. I was making lace and lace fronts wigs for the movie industry over 25 years. What happened a certain model wore a lace wigs and the entire world went crazy with lace wigs, no one took the time to show clients how to wear and care for these wigs and what we got as a result of this is a lot of women ended up with a lot of unnecessary hair loss and having to resolved back to wearing weaves and regular wigs.

Get the most out of your lustrous locks! Be sure to properly care for your Extensions.
To maintain the integrity of human hair extensions, please follow these care instructions:
1. Do not shampoo for 48-72 hours after the extensions are completed, or after any maintenance sessions.
2. Do not scrub hair when shampooing or conditioning. Condition and detangle the hair from mid-strand to the ends. Avoid the scalp area.
3. Wrap hair with a towel to dry. Do not rub hair with the towel.
4. Use blow dryers on the lowest heat setting. The cool air setting is preferable. Do not use a forceful air setting when using the blow dryer.
5. Always use the manufacturer?s recommended products and never use products that contain acetone, alcohol or sulphur.
6. Before going to bed, protect the hair by pulling it back into a ponytail or bun to prevent tangling during sleep.
7. Brush hair with a looped brush several times a day, starting at the nape and working upwards. Never us a wide-toothed comb or attempt to remove tangles from hair ends. Be sure not to use a comb in the area between scalp and the extension bonds.
8. Some manufacturers approve of using hot rollers and curling irons as long as the wearer avoids using them near the bonds. Check before using.
9. Swimming pool chemicals and seawater weaken keratin bonds. Before swimming, wet the hair completely in the shower, put the hair in a bun and cover with a bathing cap. After swimming, rinse hair immediately and dry the base area.
Other conditions and guidelines may be specified by the extensions manufacturer. We recommend that you follow these specifications in order to extend the life and prevent damage to your extensions.

With the number of ?tortures? many of us have subjected our hair to, it?s a miracle that we have any hair left at all. With the dominance of weaving techniques in the beauty industry, neglecting the natural hair we were born with has become too common. I have personally talked to many clients who have literally hidden their hair away under a weave or wig for so long that their natural hair is severely damaged. Don?t give up and swear allegiance to hair weaves forever. There are options.
